As some abilities are buyable this does impact the market. While skills such as herblore suffers due to material instant-sell product as merchandise are destroyed construction is cash sink. Hence creating reduction. Herblore is an illustration; this applies to fletching/crafting/buyable abilities. The maximum cape/completionist is a big issue in RS3 for this reason. It’s literally the cape in Runescape, minus RS3’s version of the Infernal Cape. To get into really high level PVM maxing is regarded as a must with specific perks enabled or you’re only going to be out DPSed by somebody else rather than be as fractionally effective.

Jagex dealt with this matter and wanted to make the cape cosmetic only or attempt to make the capes only trigger certain kinds of high tier cape slot items but their was a huge backlash of people who awakened months obtaining these capes. It creates sense having the maximum capes be the top capes in Runescape, but becoming 99 are more of a time sink a skill challenge.

I’d love a comp cape at OSRS for some thing for me to use but I wouldn’t want it to possess any special perks past the normal max cape stuff. No one uses maximum or comp. The kiln capes now outclassed it. They did nerf the stats on the comp and max capes, and today with the launch of wars retreat, there’s absolutely no need for being max for the maximum guild. A lot of perks (of comp, not skill cape perks) also got shifted to perm buffs that you unlock as you proceed, which means you don’t require comp anymore for that.

Skillcapes have been a problem for quite a long moment. After their debut in 2006 we botting in 2007 and found a massive rise in RWT. Skills that were useless to max such as Firemaking and Herblore needed a huge demand all of a sudden and RWTers only filled that gap. Correlation does not equal causation. Having lived it, I would be quite inclined to believe that the interval between when capes were released along with the spike in RWT and bot action you mentioned was also one where Runescape saw a good amount of growth.

Beyond this, what you are suggesting is that the action of getting people to play Runescape more is going to worsen the botting and RWT issues. I recall the change in attitude the launch of skillcapes. It actually was a simpler time before skillcapes. It seemed like barely anyone cared to acquire high stats, let alone get level 99 in useless or unenjoyable skills. Then after their release everyone seemed to suddenly care.
