    Skillcapes have been a problem for quite a long moment. After their debut in 2006 we botting in 2007 and found a massive rise in RWT. Skills that were useless to max such as Firemaking and Herblore needed a huge demand all of a sudden and RWTers only filled that gap. Correlation does not equal causation. Having lived it, I would be quite inclined to believe that the interval between when capes were released along with the spike in RWT and bot action you mentioned was also one where Runescape saw a good amount of growth.

    Beyond this, what you are suggesting is that the action of getting people to play Runescape more is going to worsen the botting and RWT issues. I recall the change in attitude the launch of skillcapes. It actually was a simpler time before skillcapes. It seemed like barely anyone cared to acquire high stats, let alone get level 99 in useless or unenjoyable skills. Then after their release everyone seemed to suddenly care.
