Same would happen if it was Epic or Activision. In case CDPR, Valve or any other cherished company did exactly the same, comments would be completely different. Edit: Sony did exactly the same and the overall reception on those remarks are largely positive. Stay fresh, Reddit. I don’t think so. If their main customer base is African American is does not make sense to market to them right now. As they will not be spending right now, as games isn’t on there heads right now. Not about respect imo. More or less they not moving to the stores right now to make purchases. Now with use of advertising they can use this as a show of solidarity with this marketplace. A wonderful gesture, but aren’t these the very same people who dared Colin Kaepernick’s name out of a song in one of the past Madden games?

I’ll preface this by saying that I do not think it’s a terrible thing for them to bring awareness to the situation. It is important that it can not only be dismissed by taking a look from it. That said, I really do hold a certain amount of distrust towards multi-billion buck multinational corporations paying lip service to significant social problems. They are in the best possible position to do more than just put out a press release or public statement. Of course, as a philosophical business they are under no obligation to do so, and it rings hollow when they attempt to stand in solidarity with all the ordinary men and women. Currently there are companies out there that are doing things and this is the opportunity to highlight those attempts; to demonstrate that they’re more than just words.

I would generally agree in the case of paying lip service to social problems without also putting money and support to advocate for change or applying it to the company and their work at the very least. Having said that police brutality isn’t exactly something that a company like EA throwing money at the problem does considerably towards fixing. At best they put money towards the lawyers and groups that struggle to see justice after the truth or lobby to get laws changed in the present government will not. It’s systemic difficulties within authorities of not reporting their own and holding them liable rather staying quiet and with the authorities unions that allow it all to happen or in ways even encourage it from the consequences being a slap on the wrist followed by being hired in another precinct showing them there is no consequences. Before even getting to legislation and rulings such as qualified immunity that protect abusive cops and permit them to misuse their power . The vast majority of that EA and most capitalist companies aren’t able to do all that much about making it unfair to say they’re in the best possible position to do much more.

The ones in the best possible position to do more would be the assumed great cops by no more remaining quiet and allowing bad cops to get away with their misuse of power or voting to get superior direction for their unions which won’t enable the behavior. However, of course it’s just words. Since following decades of corporations doing things for the wrong reason, people are very cynical. Even if all corporations stopped doing things wrong, it’ll take a longlong time for that picture of corporate America to reduce its tarnish. Part of what people can do is pick politicians that at least promise they’ll hold these corporations accountable. It probably wont happen by itself. This would be much easier if someone like this could run for office successfully.

Because regardless of this sentiment, this remains 100 percent a business and marketing maneuver. If they really wanted to do something positive, they can do it without marketing their merchandise while doing so. Because it is not genuine. This is not any different than the coronavirus advertisements. They might have said nothing at all. That is good. Solidarity or they realize a nice chunk of their audience is obsessed with something more important than a damn videogame? Man. These remarks really highlight the nihilistic character of reddit users. Yes, this really is a company. Yes, it has something to do with marketing. However, Jesus, can’t we be glad that companies are saying something? Do you not understand how much of an impact this could make? In the event the firm ignored the circumstance, it would give every checked out mind the concept that what is happening is normal and routine.
