Cultural apropriation could be a issue, but people often speak about it the wrong way. For example, if a brand new culture adopts say a hairstyle and it becomes a popular fad, but the civilization that Animal Crossing Items invented it’s seen as backwards for using it, that’s problematic cultural apropriation.
I always wanted the Brandy doll as a child, and my favorite Barbie was the dark skinned one with all the purple and white princess gown since she was pretty. When I would play Barbie computer games, Teresa was my favourite character.
I’m white and if I was small I wanted a Black Barbie more than anything. This is the 80s in Canada. My mom went to a lot of distinct stores trying to locate a single and eventually had to special order it. The reason for for my want? My very best friend was Black and it made no sense to me that if the folks around me were not all white that all my dolls should be white. I also remember thinking how lovely the Dark Barbie was.

The amount of people who would probably dislike this to oblivion probably outnumbers the number of individuals who like it.If I can customise my personality in a game I play as a very big guy, frequently not white. Hell, I only play with a female character in matches if I can. I’m a dude every single day of my life and sometimes I want a little variety, perhaps I wanna see a badass, take no shit girl in my games instead of a fundamental ass dude yet again. Seriously cannot understand why folks wish to gatekeep how a person enjoys their movie games/ttrpgs/whatever when its a form of escapism from real life, I want to do my thing and have fun!
